Artist Statement
Before taking my film photography course, I had no idea how to control the camera. I would point at my subject, take a picture, and that was that. Working with film cameras gave me an entire new understanding of and appreciation for the art of photography. There are so many things you can do with a camera! From learning to control aperture and shutter speed to discovering the lengthy process of developing film and photographs in a darkroom, I now have more control over my camera and a better idea of how to get a great image. I have also discovered my love for capturing emotional, intimate family moments as can be seen in my photographs on this site. My film photography course was a huge learning opportunity, and I cannot wait to continue my photographic journey! Inspiration My inspirational photographer is Kristin Lewis, an amazing documentary family photographer. Her photographs capture the intimate moments in the lives of families, conveying the love, playfulness, and connection between them. Her images are meaningful and special, which is exactly what I strive to do with my photographs. I want my images to strike an emotional chord with the viewer that makes them feel that unbreakable family bond that is the underlying subject of my photographs. |
